Job Description

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
A Non-Exempt position responsible for providing hearing health care to patients who have hearing problems. They assist adult patients, often working closely with other clinicians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, management reserves the right to revise the job or to require that other or different functions be performed when circumstances change or exigencies require (this includes but is not limited to emergencies, changes in personnel, workload, rush jobs, or technological developments).
1. Examines patients to identify symptoms of hearing loss.
2. Assesses the nature and extent of the problems using testing devices to measure the loudness at which a person begins to hear sounds and to distinguish between sounds. Assesses the impact of hearing loss on an individual’s daily life.
3. Develops and implements hearing loss treatment plan, which may include cleaning the ear canal, fitting/dispensing hearing aids.
4. Counsels patients about hearing loss. Educates them about treatment plan including care and maintenance of hearing aids.
5. Documents patient condition and progress.
6. Prepare contracts and demo (loaner) forms for hearing aids.
7. Process/return hearing aids for repair or credit.
8. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum three years of hearing healthcare experience, preferably in clinic setting.
Active FL Hearing Instrument Specialist license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures and overall understanding of medical office flow.
2. Knowledge of clinic operating policies.
3. Knowledge of audiology equipment and measuring instruments.
Skills:
1. Skill in counseling on adjusting to hearing loss and teaching communication strategies.
2. Skill in developing special treatment programs on an individualized basis for hearing.
3. Skill in recommending, fitting, and dispensing personal or large-area amplification systems and alerting devices.
Abilities:
1. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families with particular emphasis on listening strategies.
2. Ability to collaborate appropriately with other clinicians.
3. Ability to gather patient information, analyze patient outcomes, pay attention to detail, and concentrate intensely.
