Description Job Summary The Transportation Aide assures the safe transportation of passengers to and from various destinations, assists passengers on entry and exit from vehicles and follows guidelines for safely securing passengers, wheelchairs, cargo, etc.
Tasks, Duties, And Responsibilities - Possesses knowledge about daily route assignments.
- Maintains a clean vehicle.
- Exercises particular caution when passengers are getting in or out of the vehicle.
- Administers first aid to passengers if needed.
- Follows guidelines and all procedures for safely securing passengers, wheelchairs, and cargo, securing tie down as trained.
- Ensures that client care providers, parents or adult day program staff, and supervisor are contacted if resident will be picked up or dropped off 10 or more minutes later than indicated on route timelines.
- Maintains safety awareness while en-route and while loading/unloading passengers.
- Maintains accurate documentation.
- Report to Transportation Manager/Dispatcher any observations that would affect passengers’ safety or health.
- Completes all records documenting care/services provided or other information in keeping with agency policies.

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Education - High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience providing services to persons with developmental, learning or physical disabilities preferred but not required.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification required within 90 days of employment.
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
- Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
- Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
- Ability to maintain flexible attitude and approach towards assignments and successfully operate under ambiguous guidelines.
- Able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
- Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with passengers, co-workers, neighbors, volunteers, vendors, and the public.
- Possess a high degree of patience and the ability to tolerate frustrating situations.
- Ability to operate telephone, cell phone, push to talk units, two-way radios, and GPS.
- Ability to operate mechanical lifts, wheelchairs, adaptive equipment, adjustable chairs/beds.
- Ability to use computer software for documentation and communication upon request.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test within 24 hours of a job offer.
- Must pass a pre-employment health screening/TB Test; and annually thereafter.
- Have a criminal records clearance from DHS and/or DSS (Live Scan fingerprinting).
- Must complete all other required new hire training including CPR/First Aid.
- Must maintain confidentiality of consumer Protected Health Information (PHI) used for treatment, payment, health care, etc. and personal information of consumers.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, reach, carry, lift, bend, twist, stoop, and kneel. The employee will be required to assist with lifting, moving, and transferring residents to and from vehicles and wheelchairs as necessary. The employee may frequently move to interact with fellow employees and/or clients. Additionally, the individual may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The position involves a significant amount of locomotion on the ground and in a moving vehicle and requires good vision and hearing.

Additionally, we provide early childhood assessments and services, tailored day support, Life Planning workshops, county-wide transportation services, and on-site activities at our resource center.
