JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut, Office of the Vice President for Research, is seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable administrative professional to serve as a Research Development Assistant for Limited Submissions and Internal Funding. This position will provide key operational support for limited submission competitions, internal funding programs, and other research development initiatives.

The Research Development Assistant will work under the supervision of the Manager, Research Development Services, and will be part of the larger Research Development Services team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide operational support for limited submission competitions (200+ micro competitions per year).
    • Screen/curate new limited submission opportunities on a weekly basis based on established criteria and consult with leadership on which opportunities should be posted.
    • Create competition advertisements using established templates and post/advertise to the University community through established channels.
    • Set up competitions in our application management system (SurveyMonkey Apply) using templates.
    • Monitor competition deadlines and take action to ensure that competitions are resolved in a timely manner. When necessary, assist with the setup of review committees and the processing of review scores and comments.
    • Create/maintain competition-related records and files (Airtable, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Teams). Ensure that completed competitions are closed out and that competition listings remain current.
    • Provide timely, accurate, and service-oriented responses to routine inquiries from applicants/potential applicants, referring more unusual inquiries to leadership as needed.
    • Tracking long-term outcomes for selected applicants and assist with collecting metrics for program reports.
  • Provide administrative support for Internal Funding and other Research Development programs.
    • Assist with advertising/posting announcements related to Research Development programs and with the dissemination of funding opportunities.
    • Provide backup monitoring of group email inbox(es) and respond to routine inquiries, as needed.
    • Provide logistical support for the setup and operation of internal funding competitions in our application management system (SurveyMonkey Apply), as needed.
    • Assist with the creation of award letters and with the formatting and editing of reviewer feedback, as needed.
  • Provide logistical support for Research Development-related events, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and up to one year of experience or Associate's degree and two to three years of experience. Experience should be in positions providing administrative or programmatic support.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Solid computer skills, including a demonstrated ability to use a wide range of software. Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel and Word are required).
  • Ability to absorb and process new information quickly and to adapt to new systems and procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a higher education setting, particularly with faculty.
  • Familiarity with federal grant programs and solicitations.
  • Experience with administrative projects that involve repeating workflows
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently within established guidelines.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month position, with an excellent benefits package including medical and retirement, as well as employee and dependent tuition reimbursement at the University of Connecticut (outlined here: The salary range for this position is $44,724 to $58,142 commensurate with education and experience. With the expectation to travel on-site as needed, remote work modalities may be considered in accordance with the University's Alternate Work Arrangements policy and authorization. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
