Classification: Police Officer

The City of Marysville Police Division (MPD) is establishing an eligibility list for Police Officer/ Police Recruit. All testing must be completed by July 2, 2025. The eligibility list established is valid for a period of eight (8) months, with a possible extension to twelve (12) months.

MPD requires the candidate to fill out the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). You can access the PHQ through your candidate account. You must complete the PHQ by the closing date or you may not be considered further in the process.

An Ohio Police Officer's Training Council Certification (OPOTA) is preferred at the date of appointment to the position. Lateral Hire Candidates are encouraged to apply.

Salary Information: 2025 Rate of Pay $64,563.20 - $89,606.40 with OPOTA Certification with Excellent Benefits (Starting pay without OPOTA certification is $59,812.48)

The Division of Police currently has 48 sworn members, ten communication officers, one systems support technician, a records clerk, and an administrative assistant. The Division has specialized units such as: K-9, Investigations, Special Response Team, Bicycle,e and Motorcycle.

The Division seeks highly motivated individuals with experience in patrol functions and other components of police work to serve our citizens & uphold the mission and vision of the Division of Police.

Necessary Certifications:

Applicant must be 21 years of age and have a valid Ohio Driver's License.
An Ohio Police Officer's Training Council Certification (OPOTA) is preferred at time of appointment.
Applicants must also possess a clear background/history and good driving record.
Schooling Prior and Post-Hiring:
Candidates must be high school graduates. Some college and previous law enforcement experience is preferred.

MPD encourages lateral hires (transfers) from other Ohio law enforcement agencies with an accelerated starting wage and prior service vacation credit provided and based on previous experience. Lateral candidates are still required to apply and test. Lateral hire candidates will be contacted and informed of this status consideration prior to interviews. Hiring steps may be eliminated/reduced (an expedited hire), on a case-by-case basis.
Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers:
Conviction of any felony; must have a clean criminal past.

Driving Disqualifiers:
Must have a valid Ohio Driver's license.

Drug Use Disqualifiers:
Illegal use of controlled substances and/or conviction for controlled substance violation or intemperate use of alcoholic beverages.

Employment Disqualifiers:
Poor Work History, Dishonesty or has been dismissed from employment for inefficiency, delinquency or misconduct; or has resigned from employment while disciplinary charges were pending.

Financial Disqualifiers:
Multiple debts that are not being regularly paid off or a recent bankruptcy.

Additional Disqualifiers:
Failure to meet minimum qualifications stated in the announcement or attempted deception, fraud or cheating in connection with the applicant or test, making false statements on the application, or has otherwise demonstrated a lack of integrity or responsible behavior. Also, any other qualities, traits, or attributes undesirable for the position of a law enforcement employee.
