Duties and Responsibilities
The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking a compassionate skilled individual to provide essential services to primary and secondary victims of crimes. This position will assist individuals by providing referrals for specialized services to victims of fatal crashes, DUI crashes or any crime victims in order to assist with needs ranging from shelter to monetary needs. This position will also assist in notifying victim’s next of kin in fatal traffic crashes; Serve as a liaison between the victim or family and other organizations; provide victims with the progress of FHP investigations and prosecutions and assist victims with victim compensation claims. This position requires the incumbent to be able to multi-task, be detail oriented, work under high stress levels and create and maintain accurate records.

  • Knowledge of appropriate state and local laws related to crime victims.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures and practices.
  • Skilled in compassionate communication.
  • Skilled in problem solving.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to interview victims to obtain relevant information.
  • Ability to handle stressful, crisis situations.
  • Ability to serve as liaison between the victim and victim services and the Florida Highway Patrol.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, psychology, criminal justice or related field; or 2 years of professional work experience in human services, social services, psychology, criminal justice or related field.

 

Job Related Requirements

  • The applicant selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • The selected applicant must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check.

 

General Information

  • The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
  • FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
