Position Summary

Swenson Park Golf Course is seeking a Director of Instruction to lead all aspects of teaching and player development programs. This role offers the opportunity to leverage the facility’s innovative features, such as upcoming Toptracer technology and putting course installation, to expand the reach of golf in the community and drive increased participation and revenue. The facility is a longtime supporter of The First Tee and PGA HOPE programs, with this position playing a supporting role in their programming at Swenson Park.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct individual and group lesson programs and golf clinics for golfers of all skill levels.
  • Assess student abilities and skill levels, develop and implement lesson plans and teaching techniques.
  • Offer constructive feedback and guidance on club selection and shot selection.
  • Promote positive sportsmanship and ethics.
  • Utilize video analysis and other technologies to enhance instruction.
  • Stay current with best practices and trends in golf instruction to ensure a modern and effective approach to teaching.
  • Utilize established calendar software to schedule lessons, organize programs, manage the flow of instruction, as well as to create reports to track lessons.
  • Oversee and manage the instructional budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Interact with guests in a congenial and professional manner.
  • Promote lesson programming, scheduled fitting days, and make equipment recommendations to encourage sales.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and projected industry developments through continuous attention to golf industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
  • Serve as a manager on duty in the absence of the General Manager and other department heads.
  • Serve as a resource to facility management with regard to staff selection, training plans, and scheduling.
  • Assure the efficient and timely submission of all required reports.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

 

Education/Qualifications/Certifications

  • BA / BS degree, preferred.
  • PGA or LPGA Member in good standing.
  • Min 3 years management experience, preferably in the golf or hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrated experience and capability in the areas of fiscal management and staff management. Retailing, marketing, and/or sales and customer service guest relations experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer software including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated quality written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
  • Positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.

 

Position Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to:

  • Read and write (English)
  • Communicate verbally with staff members and/or customers with or without the use of two-way radios.
  • Give and/or follow verbal and written instructions
  • Supervise subordinates
  • Visually inspect all work areas, golf course and grounds
  • Give physical demonstrations of the golf swing
  • See players on the golf course, and to follow the flight of golf balls
  • Operate vehicles and equipment for several hours at a time
  • Perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Retrieve, read and interpret information from technical sources
  • Stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, bend and kneel for up to 5 hours at a time
  • Lift up to 150 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly

 

Working Conditions

Work hours may include days and evenings on weekdays and weekends. Subject to outside environmental conditions. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards.

General office machines such as personal computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, etc., golf clubs, golf carts and other golf course maintenance tools & equipment.

Salary Range:

$24.00-$26.00/hour plus teaching commission
